Meeting called to order by Charlie Lacy President at 6:35. The group had spent a few moments prior to the meeting doing some deadheading in the City Rose Garden. The group discussed the Fair project and agreed that we would again make an entry in the display garden. Noreen Evans will complete the Fair entry application. We will meet at the fairgrounds the beginning of the week of August 3 to set up the display. Everyone will be thinking of the fair theme "Soaring ewe to new heights" and looking for hardscape to help complete the garden. We will discuss ideas at the July meeting.
Mary Lynn, although unable to attend the meeting, suggested that the July meeting be a potluck BBQ at her house. The members present agreed that was a good idea, so the next meeting will be held at the Hunt home in Talmage. Directions will be sent out prior to the meeting.
Member Jessica Kimball brought a DVD of her trip to Oregon nurseries. The photos were stunning, mostly iris, peonies and hanging baskets. Unfortunately, the sound didn’t come through on the computer, but the program was wonderful in spite of that.
The meeting adjourned at 7:30.
Respectfully submitted by Noreen Evans
Meeting called to order at 6:35 p.m. by Vice President Noreen Evans. President Charlie not
able to attend due to illness. A smaller than usual group attended. A very informal
meeting since there was no presentations/speaker.
Article in Ukiah Daily Journal We thanked VP Noreen for writing the article for the UDJ
Spring Home and Garden Insert. It was a very nice article. She and Treasurer Jessica told
us the story on how the article came to be.
Advertisement in City Parks and Recreation Guide. VP Noreen announced that the City will
start charging our group ½ price ($70.00) to place an ad in their Guide which is published
2-3 times a year. We will not be charged for the current one that is coming out, but we
will be billed for future ones. We discussed if we actually benefited from the ad and
several members stated that this was the avenue that they first heard of the group. We
also felt that we should support the city since they allow us to use the conference room
for free. It was agreed that we should at least have an ad in the spring guide, but not
necessarily at the other times of the year.
Sun House Rose Garden: Waiting for city to put up fencing and install drip irrigation.
Mendocino Rose Society Web Site Members were encouraged to use the website. Submit
articles etc…to roz@gisandbeyond.com
Jessica shared her trip to the Garden Show at the San Mateo Fairgrounds (formerly at the
Cow Palace in San Francisco). Members discussed what they were doing in their gardens
this month and what new roses people had planted. Members also shared their vacations
coming up and what gardens/nurseries they would be visiting.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at approximately 8:00 p.m.
Respectfully submitted, Mary Lynn Hunt, Secretary
Reminder: We are in need of guest speakers. All members are encouraged to take a month
and provide a speaker/program. In addition, if you want to schedule a field trip, now is
the time to plan for spring bloom. Let’s get it on our calendar.
